Cameroonian asylum seeker granted refugee status in the UK on account of his sexuality

31/3/2021

Irene Molioti of ITN Solicitors represented a young bisexual man from Cameroon, who was granted refugee status in the UK. The client was referred to our firm by UKLGIG, a charity that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans, queer and intersex people though the asylum and immigration system.

Irene assisted the client by advising him on the evidence he would require in order to support his claim. It was demonstrated to the Home Office that the client was a bisexual man by way of evidence proving that he has been an active member of the LGBTQ+ community in the UK and has played an important role in raising awareness concerning the rights of LGBTQ+ persons. It was also proven that the client was subject to persecution in Cameroon due to his sexuality. His account was further corroborated by the extensive objective material submitted to the Home Office, which proved that Cameroonians often face the threat of imprisonment and arbitrary arrests based on the suspicion of homosexuality.

Our client was afforded the opportunity to live a safe life in the UK and we wish him all the best.
